Lectures

Week 3

In week 3, we learn about storytelling in film, what is the story, and what is the plot. Also, we learn 3 act structure using Munich, Lalin, and also Guang. 3-act structure including beginning/setup (act 1), middle/confrontation (act 2), and also end/resolution (act 3).

Week 4

Mise En Scène means putting (mise) on (en) stage (scène), in French. It refers to what we see onscreen, all of the elements that appear on camera, and their arrangement. The learning of Mise En Scène includes composition, set design, lighting, costume, and props, also the depth of space.

Week 5

Learning storyboarding using shower scene storyboard in "Psycho". Storyboarding means visualization, when the scene has a complicated action involved or few perspective points of view, storyboarding is the most effective way to map out the scene.

Week 8 Project 2 Exercise 5

The following exercise was to use our editing and cropping skills to create a video using footage shot by our seniors.

I also added some effects at the join of some clips and at the end of the video to make it smoother.

With editing techniques and skills in adding effects required in this exercise, it's a great exercise to learn how to combine the footage provided to create a complete and narrative video. In this exercise, we also learn how to insert some graphic elements into the video to enrich the overall picture.

Project 2- MV shooting

We were asked to work in groups of three to four people to shoot a music video where three people dancing together was one of the conditions of the project.

First, we chose a music video of a Korean girl group called "Love Dive" for this project. We watched a lot of music videos and had many meetings before we made this decision. Then, we decided to do the shoot together on campus. We spent two days filming and editing independently.

Process

There was a challenge in editing this music video because there were so many shots and we had to watch all of them to make the final selection.

Also, we were asked to trim the whole mv in 30 seconds, so I decided to combine two audio clips from different parts of "Love Dive" into one mv. It was quite difficult to combine the two audio in a natural way, so I used an effect called constant gain to make it more natural.

Finally, add a "Love Diving" logo to make it look complete.

Project 2- Production shoot video

In this project, we have the opportunity to learn how the industry is shooting and we can also learn about some professional shooting tools. We separate into 2 groups and did the filming on campus.

Based on the footage uploaded in the shared drive, we edited our video separately and I was thinking of making it look scary and look exactly like the trailer for the Korean drama "Happiness".

In terms of editing, there were a few things to keep in mind for this project. The video had to have a sense of narrative, and in order to make it more professional, it should include atmosphere and sound, and should also maintain an overall aesthetic.

I added a lot of effects to the editing to add to the feel of the trailer, and in terms of sound and audio, I also added some human screams to make it creepy and scary.

Also, in this project, we were asked to do color correction and color grading, which was difficult and complicated when following the tutorial videos, but once I got used to it, it became easier.
