We were given an introduction to the next week's course and all the projects we would need to do in the future. In addition, we were given exercises in the first week about searching for stop-motion animated shorts or visual effects shorts, and we were asked to do further explanations for the results of our research.
Week 2
In week 2, we learned about framing and storyboarding. We were also given knowledge about the earliest cinema, learning how the film was made in the previous generation. In addition, we also get to know what is shot size. There are several shot sizes that are important for us to know.
1. Extreme wide shot (E.W.S)
2. Wide shot (W.S)
3. Medium wide shot (M.W.S)
4. Medium shot (M.S)
5. Medium close-up shot (M.C.U)
6. Close-up shot (C.U)
7. Extreme close-up shot (E.C.U)
8. Over the shoulder shot (O.S)
We also got to know some knowledge about camera angles, including rule of thirds, subject angle, subject height, and others.
Of all our sound effects, I think the sound effect of talking under a cave was the most difficult. I used both reverb and parametric EQ but still didn't achieve the desired effect.
Dubbing practice, dubbing the characters, and also adding background sounds to the video depending on the environment. Remember to separate into soundtracks 1,2,3,4,..., as audio track 1 is for dialogue, audio tracks 2-3 is for hard sound effects, and audio tracks 4-6 is for ambient sound. In addition, we are asked to edit voice from female to male or from male to female, and also from human to cute animal. Make sure the sound matches the picture accurately, and also observe the environment well before adding the sound.
We were asked to record the lines according to the script shown below, it showed lines of Joe and the cat.

Filter the recorded audio file on the preview window and drag it into the track for further editing. Do select the period needed in the preview window before dragging it into the track to make it easier for the final selection.
fig. 3 Process 2
Drag all the audio clips from the soundtrack and make a final selection by eliminating the not-so-good audio clips and keeping the best audio clips for specific lines.
fig. 4 Process 3
Using the pen tool to adjust the volume value, cause I record my voice using a mobile phone, which might cause some problems with volume uneven.
Although I checked against the provided video and recorded my voice, there may be some delay in some parts due to my speed of speech. Therefore, I need to edit the speed of the clip.
Final submission of project 1- Dabbing practice
The final outcome of this project was shown above.
23/9/2024-8/1/2025 (week1-week15) Ng Jia Xien (0355062) Major project Introduction Pre-production Concept This project focuses on the pre-production phase of an animated film designed for children. It draws inspiration from the ancient Chinese classic Shan Hai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas) and incorporates elements of Tibetan culture to create a unique and educational narrative. The project includes the development of character designs, creature concepts, and environment visuals, blending ancient mythology and cultural heritage with a focus on storytelling that resonates with young audiences. Sketch The main character (the boy) is based on a character designed for a comic assignment in the Semester 1 IVN class. The other creatures are inspired by Shan Hai Jing , with their designs developed after studying the original text and referencing online sources. Fig1. Character Body Size Sketch (The Boy) Fig2. 31/8/2023-7/12/2023 (week1-week15) Ng Jia Xien (0355062) Vehicle and Props Design Instruction Week2(Public Holiday) Week 3 Deconstruction exercise During week 1, we were supposed to complete the deconstruction exercise, which is using shape to block out the vehicles and try to understand the mechanism and structure. I did start that exercise but still couldn't complete it before the week 3 submission, so Mr. Kannan allowed me to extend the submission deadline to week 4, and I did finish on time. We were also asked to do research on different terrain vehicles (sea, land, air), we could come out with the idea of vehicles based on movies/games/ animation and others. So I decided to use the same IP with my environment art, which is the animation "Spirited Away". After creating my mood board, I started to do my sketch. I try to do it quickly as Mr. Kannan said we shouldn't waste t...
