Project 4: Self-Titled

Tell us about yourself

I'm a 20-year-old dreamer who really likes to daydream and happily indulge in my fantasy world, but I'm also a social person, which means I have a lot of friends. Sometimes I want to hang out with my friends and enjoy the hilarious time I have with them, but sometimes I'd rather be alone and be with myself.

What is your passion?

Nature and creation are my passions in life. Nature makes me wonder about the beauty of life, and creation keeps me alive. Therefore, I am always close to nature and keep myself creative, which is a way to keep my passion alive.

What’s motivate you to achieve your dream?

I still haven't found my dream, but what drives me to find it is the will to live a better life and the ability to make a better life for my parents.

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

Because I don't know my specific dream, I think I will add some elements about nature in my works and I try to make my works look happy and positive. In my work, I want to express that I want to be a creative thinker and want to build a fantasy world of my own. But at the same time, I also want to show that sometimes I am a less optimistic person and try to escape from the stress of reality from time to time.

Tell us about your work

I would like to name my work as "Daydreamer" because in my opinion, a person who likes to daydream is a person who can face reality optimistically and is a person who dares to dream. I hope I am a daydreamer, and also my works.

What is the concept behind it?

The whole picture is displayed in smooth and happy tones, which makes my work look happy and positive. The elements in the picture I want it to be gorgeous and colorful to show that I am a positive thinking person. However, there are still some parts of the picture that are black and white, which shows that sometimes I am a person who will escape from reality and be negative about life.

What is the message you want people to understand it?

I want people to realize that daydreaming is sometimes not a bad thing in life, that daydreaming helps me to see the good side of things, and it allows me to think in a positive way. I want people to feel the charm of daydreaming through my work.

What is your motto/ quote?

Always be grateful and think positively.

Final poster

For the final poster submission, I combined poster 1 and 2 to come up with a combined design, which I used as my final piece. The birds, butterflies and leaves represent nature, and the planets and clouds represent creativity. Although I was quite satisfied with poster 1’s flowers field, but it was difficult to convert into animation, so I decided to go with poster 2 and make a little improvement to make it my final piece.

31/8/2023-7/12/2023 (week1-week15) Ng Jia Xien (0355062) Vehicle and Props Design Instruction  Week2(Public Holiday) Week 3 Deconstruction exercise  During week 1, we were supposed to complete the deconstruction exercise, which is using shape to block out the vehicles and try to understand the mechanism and structure. I did start that exercise but still couldn't complete it before the week 3 submission, so Mr. Kannan allowed me to extend the submission deadline to week 4, and I did finish on time. We were also asked to do research on different terrain vehicles (sea, land, air), we could come out with the idea of vehicles based on movies/games/ animation and others.
