Project 1: Self-Portrait
Lecture 6
We are asked to create a self-portrait, and try to ask ourselves, who am I? How many faces do I have? Think about how we see ourselves and how others see us and find out our interests, experiences, thoughts, and others. A self-portrait is a self-representation in the form of a drawing/ painting/ sculpture/ design. It is a visual depiction of the self. A self-portrait artwork represents the designer/ artist- in other words, how he sees himself, what he's feeling, and how he wants to be seen by others. It's not necessarily about creating a realistic image of ourselves; instead, it's often an exercise in self-exploration.
How to Mind Map with Tony Buzan
Mind maps are thinking techniques that are easy to create and effective. It starts with an eye-catching central image in the middle of a blank page, then we create branches that radiate out from this image and reflect our thoughts. Add only one keyword to each branch to avoid phrases or sentences. We should use color and stimulating images throughout to make our map more effective.

After creating the mind map, my thoughts become clearer and more specific. I start sketching my idea as below, and to make my ideas and creations clearer, I also insert some visual research and simple explanations into the sketches as well.

Process
I will try the projector photography technique in task 1, which is a photographic method that involves projecting an image onto a person or an object for artistic effect. Below are some examples of projector photography.

To create this type of photography, we need to have a projector and also a clean white wall to ensure that the projected objects are clearly visible.

Then, we had to prepare the image that we were going to project, and I prepare a collage of my life tracks on the Internet (idea in sketch 1). We should also note that the room in which the projection is made must be kept dark in order to ensure the clarity of the projection.

And this completes the preparation work, then here is my outcome of the projector photography.

Next, I changed the idea of collage (sketch 2) to a puzzle, which expresses the idea that I am a person made up of many different characteristics and thoughts.

Finally, combine them together to get the following effect.

Feedback
I can maintain the first idea (sketch 1), and improve it by focusing on the type or style of the mirror to express my character. Also, let the side of the face be mundane, and the reflection of the mirror be more colorful. For the second idea (sketch 2), the lecturer suggested that I change "my imaginary world" to "the people that influence me" while incorporating the idea of Internet life tracks into it. As for the last idea (sketch 3), trying to figure out how to present the message of my life is obvious to everyone throughout the history of the Internet, instead of focusing on the technique.

Brief reflection for weeks 7-9
In completing project 1, I realized that design is not only focused on aesthetics and practicality but also the ideas and thoughts drawn from design are a topic worth exploring. In project 1, we were asked to incorporate our own thinking or reflections into our work, which I think gives more meaning and depth to my work.
