Week 1 lecture recap:

We learn why we need to learn photoshop, as it helps us express our creativity, create graphic design, restorative old images, integrate graphics with text artistically, rectify mistakes in photographs, change the photo color, and make use of brushes. Before photoshop, we have to know photograph manipulation, and also the invention of photoshop which creates digital imaging. Besides that, we were given 10 tips for becoming a successful graphic designer.

We have also been given a briefing on next week's collage exercise, we practice the Bezier game and summit 3 favorite graphic design composition work from Pinterest as our first exercise. We suppose to bring magazines and any material for next week's collage exercise.

Week 1 Exercise:
List down my 3 favorite graphic design works from Pinterest. Explain why I like the design.

Figure 1.2 Design 1
Figure 2 shows a poster of an old man and some pictures of buildings, we can know that the man on the poster is someone who works in construction even if we can't read the text. The information on this poster is distinct and it also makes a good combination of two completely different photos to give a good design.

Figure 1.3 Design 2
Figure 3 shows a woman wearing a dress made of yellow letters, it used the word as the woman's cloth to emphasize the word and create an interesting visual representation.

Figure 1.4 Design 3

Figure 4 looks three-dimensional and has textures included in the design. There are a lot of photoshop techniques included in the design. So I think this is an interesting design for me to learn by copying it.

Week 2 lecture recap:
We have been given an introduction to basic composition to start our collage, it is important for us to know the focus point, scale and hierarchy, balance, and also white space in the design. In addition, we have also learned about the rule of thirds, the golden ratio, and composition. We were asked to apply the principles we just learned to our collage work.

Instruction:

Project 1A: Physical Collage

We have to choose and identify our collage's design elements to be cut and compose it into our own concept and story. Pre compositing our collage's design elements into a composition, then take 3 photos of our collage's pre-composition and insert them in our e-portfolio.

Feedback:
It was a great series and I will probably choose composition 2 as the final submission, glue up the final collage and bring them to class in week 4. Collage submission templates will be available in week 4. Also, remember to update the e-portfolio for week 2.

Week 3 lecture recap:

We have studied the introduction to Photoshop part 2, where we learned about the use of the lasso tool, the pen tool, and layering. We will sometimes use them in class to do some exercises on using these tools.

Project 1B: Digital Collage

Download all the images provided to us and follow the tutorial demo provided as a reference to create our digital collage. Using an A4 canvas size (vertical) artboard, create 3 different composition digital collages from the image provided. Take 3 photos of our digital collage artwork and insert them into our e-portfolio.

Feedback:
Overall is good, may select composition 1 for the week 4 adjustment layer exercise.

Week 4 lecture recap:

We are given the introduction to Photoshop 3, which is the adjustment layer and filter. Adjustment layers in Photoshop are a set of super useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tone adjustments to our images without permanently changing their pixels. This will make our workflow in Photoshop more flexible and efficient and is an absolute must-know.

Using filters to edit photos is an essential element of Adobe's graphics editor. There are filters that can change colors, add blur, or create entirely new image effects. Photoshop offers an almost unlimited number of filters for this purpose.

Week 4 Exercise

We were asked to attach our best composition from the week 3 digital collage exercise. Using the same Photoshop file, improvise the digital collage from week 3 into week 4 by using adjustment layers and filters on Photoshop. Also, explain what we have learned through this exercise.

Figure 4.1 Composition 1 from week 3

Above is my composition 1 digital collage work from week 3, it features fish and architecture with textures and plants as background to emphasize the main characters, which is the fish.

Figure 4.2 Composition 1 with adjustment layer and filter

I lowered the brightness and exposure to give it more contrast between the main character and the background. In addition, I adjusted the tones and color balance to give the collage a vintage feel.
